Magic tricks were used by the ninja for several reasons. It was used as a method to busker and earn money when on the road for a mission, and it was used to captivate someone for intelligence gathering or some other objective by earning their trust and interest. Sometimes, it was used even for misdirection (ie. they look at your right hand while your left hand picks their pocket or does something you don't want them to see.
